Atlantic Sturgeon

In collaboration with DFO, Blue Matter in 2021 developed a stock assessment for the status of Atlantic sturgeon (Acipenser oxyrhynchus) in the St. John River, New Brunswick. A population model was developed with Stock Synthesis (SS3) from fishery catch data, along with the multi-year Brownie model for PIT and floy tagging data. For the first time, a population model can be used to perform a risk analysis of the current 350 fish commercial quota to support management of the Atlantic sturgeon stock.
